PHP is a general purpose scripting language suited for server-side web development. It was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995 and has grown ever since. PHP originally stood for “Personal Home Page”. He used a set of Perl scripts he called PHP to maintain and continue to track how much traffic his page started. He writes this as “the C programming language common Gateway Interface” that allows the ability to work with web forms and databases.

PHP 2.0

A development team began to take shape. They spent months of work and beta testing and released PHP / FI 2 in November 1997. Short after that, Alpha PHP 3 was released.

PHP 3 is the strength of a powerful extended features. It also gives end users a solid infrastructure for lots of different, database protocols and APIs. Another feature is the introduction of object-oriented syntax support. About 10% of the web server on the internet has been installed by the end of 1998 to EUR 3. PHP 3 was released in June 1998.

By the winter of 1998, Andi and Zeev began working on rewriting the PHP core. Their goal is to improve the performance of complex applications and the modularity of PHP code base.

Today, PHP is used by developers around the world and installed in 20% of the domains on the Internet. The latest release PHP 5 was released in July 2004.
